شناسایی مخمر سیاه بسیار مقاوم Hortaea werneckii

Morphological and molecular characterization of the halophilic black yeast Hortaea werneckii isolated as an endophyte from Avicennia marina in Iran (Published in Mycologia Iranica).

Research Highlights

Hortaea werneckii is one of the most remarkable extremotolerant black yeasts known to science, capable of surviving near-saturated NaCl concentrations. During our survey of mangrove endophytes in southern Iran, we successfully isolated and characterized this species from internal tissues of Avicennia marina.

Collaborating with Dr. Khalil-Berdi Fotouhifar and Prof. Mohammad Javan-Nikkhah, we documented its distinct yeast-like to filamentous dimorphic development, meristematic growth, and dark, melanized cell walls through high-resolution microscopy. Molecular phylogenetic analysis of the ITS rDNA region confirmed the identity of the Iranian mangrove isolates, expanding our understanding of the ecological niche of black yeasts as plant endophytes in hypersaline marine forests.
